Getting Started
1. Activate Your Account in the Freelway App
To fully utilize the services within the app, you need to create an account.

2. Search for Trips, Public Transport, Express Buses, Local Options, and Ridesharing Offers
With the trip planner, you can search for public transport throughout Sweden and find private ridesharing offers. You will also find commercial offers, such as local ski buses and express buses, if available in the area you are traveling.

3. Offer and Request Rides (Private Ridesharing)
In private ridesharing, drivers offering rides can choose to provide rides for free or share the cost with passengers. Note! When sharing the cost between driver and passengers, the passenger's cost is calculated automatically. The passenger pays a maximum of 12.50 SEK per 10 km, while the driver can receive a maximum of 25 SEK per 10 km, regardless of the number of passengers. Payment to the driver is made via Swish or cash or if a free offer no payments are required.
Rides: Here, you offer a seat in your car when you are the driver. Specify the planned date and time for the trip, along with the number of available seats.
Requests: If you need a ride, create a request indicating when, along which route, and how many seats you need.
Book a Seat and Receive Confirmation: When you book a seat on an offered trip, the driver receives a push notification that you want to join. The driver can then confirm or decline the booking. You will receive a follow-up push notification once the driver responds to your booking request.
Profile: Here, you can view all current bookings for your rides and requests. Notifications about ridesharing can be found under the clock icon.

Private Ridesharing
Does it cost anything to use the service?
There is no cost to use the service itself. However, if you're a passenger, you share the mileage reimbursement for the trip unless the driver has offered the ride for free. The app automatically calculates how much you should pay the driver for the ride (a maximum of 12.50 SEK per 10 km) and displays the cost in the app.
How do I pay for private ridesharing?
You pay the driver the specified price either in cash or via Swish.
Sometimes the list of "Requests and Rides" doesn’t stay updated. What's wrong?
On some phones, you may need to manually refresh the list. Swipe down from the top of the screen with your thumb to update the list.
What happens if something goes wrong during the ride? What about insurance?
It is the responsibility of each driver to have valid liability insurance. Freelway acts as an intermediary for the rides and does not provide insurance coverage for your trip.
Is ridesharing taxable?
The Swedish Tax Agency states: "If you share a ride with, for example, a colleague or neighbor and only share the fuel cost and similar, you do not need to report that payment in your tax declaration. The same applies if you connect with someone through a mobile application or a network available to the public. This means that when you receive compensation of no more than 25 SEK per 10 km from the person(s) you are sharing a ride with, you do not need to report it in your tax declaration. Remember, if you are entitled to deductions for commuting, you must reduce the deduction by the amount of compensation you have received."
